SMUD

Phase 2: Using regional & system seasonal load data from SMUD sources including SCADA & GIS, provide optimized cases of:

  • Ranked lists of individual additions of reactive capacity (capacitors)
  • Reductions in onsite load (demand response resources)
  • Real or real + reactive capacity (distributed generation)
  • Alternating real + reactive resources (storage) for the projected system for each case, along with loss and voltage impact results and full power flow results for selected cases.

Phase 1:

  • Identified bus-specific SMUD Zone DG and capacitor additions for reliability-related Transmission system improvements.
  • Used GE PSLF models loaded onto GRIDfast software to run Sacramento Area High Load and Low Load Power Factor cases containing complete WECC system; 13 Critical Contingencies (N-1, N-2), 2 RASs.
  • Optimized placement of renewable DG and capacitance significantly increased system load-serving (+4-8%) and import capability (+3-17%).
  • Please note that AEMPFAST now is branded “GRIDfast”, and is owned and developed by GRIDiant Corporation.
